Isagenix Exposed: Safe Weight Loss or Another Pretender?

It seems like new crash diets and cleanses pop up every week, all of them claiming some manner of miraculous results, promising to transform bodies in an amount of time that seems too good to be true. And most of the time, they are. There have been hundreds of different iterations over the years, all of them based on dubious scientific foundation, and all of them inevitably forgotten with time. This article; Isagenix Exposed, Explores the global phenomenon from an entirely science based perspective.

The latest fad to hit the weight loss world is a program called Isagenix, one of a long line of “detox cleanses” that is supposed to “optimize the metabolism”, in turn allowing the user to burn fat faster than ever. But is there validity to this particular diet? Can it provide the fast-acting results its users crave?

The short answer is yes, but there are some red flags.

Isagenix will help you lose weight fast, but is it healthy? Almost certainly not. It also won’t burn fat as much as help you lose water and potentially muscle.

Isagenix is yet another diet that doesn’t only sound too good to be true, it is. What’s more, there’s some reason to conclude that the cleanse may be hazardous to a person’s health if they stick to its rigid guidelines. Here’s everything you need to know about the latest (but probably not the greatest) diet:

Isagenix Exposed

First, What Is Isagenix?

It should be mentioned that Isagenix actually contains several dietary options, not just for weight loss. People can buy different lines to promote energy, performance, or healthy aging, but the company’s most popular plan is the weight loss variety, called “Weight Wellness”. Here’s how it works.

The program works by way of meal replacement. The marketing for Isagenix uses language that implies that Isagenix supplements contain only the nutrients that your body needs, causing you to lose weight fast.

The most popular way to use Isagenix is by purchasing the 30-day diet over and over for $378.50 per month (what a steal) and starting over after each 30-day cycle.

Basically, you’ll only be eating one meal a day that’s not supplied by Isagenix. You’ll replace your two other meals with Isagenix shakes, and if you get hungry during the day, the 30-day program includes several “healthy” snacks in the form of a low-cal bar that is more like a large wadded, unnecessary multi vitamin.

You’ll also take two supplements a day: a “nutrient” shake and another supplement that claims to help your digestive system, as well a pill before bedtime “Isaflush”, which, if you think the name makes it sound like a laxative, you’d be right.

Isagenix Exposed

Potential Negatives of Isagenix

Here are a few downsides of Isagenix right off the bat:

It May Be More Bark than Bite

There are a few problems with Isagenix right off the bat. First, it’s yet another multilevel-marketing (MLM) company in the same vein as Herbalife, Arbonne, and countless others that claim miraculous results to try to get people excited about selling it to their friends (both in real life and on Facebook).

We’re not saying an MLM can’t provide the results they advertise, but the typical business model gives reason for pause. These companies survive off of manufacturing products at low cost and then selling them to regular people in large enough quantities that they’ll turn around and sell them to their friends and loved ones. As the name suggests, these companies spend more time marketing their products than making sure they work.

Isagenix Exposed

There are Some Health Risks

Basically, the whole diet is built on dubious claims. It’s been established by countless dietary and news sources that cleanse diets and detox programs are not effective or healthy in the long run. They provide immediate results (like Isagenix) because a liquid diet makes the user lose water weight (and even muscle) fast, but it doesn’t have a real effect when it comes to sustainably burning fat.

This isn’t just the mark of a cleanse, but low-calorie diets in general. They provide immediate results because if you’re a person who used to consume excessive calories and now, suddenly start to eat less, it’s just math that you’ll lose weight. But eventually, the body adjusts and slows down metabolism as a way for a variety of internal systems to adjust to the fact that it’s not getting enough calories or nutrients.

This means that while your body stops burning fat at a high rate, you’ll be lowering the performance of other crucial functions like the brain, liver, and other organs.

Isagenix Exposed

What Are Experts Saying About Isagenix?

Abbey Sharp of Toronto-based nutrition blog “Abbey’s Kitchen” takes issue with the fact that Isagenix basically uses an overloaded dose of magnesium for laxative effects. Says Sharp “I definitely would never recommend someone be using a laxative, even a natural one, regularly in the long term.” She adds that “I am not comfortable with the lack of research on this cocktail of herbs”, implying that just because something is advertised as natural doesn’t mean that it’s safe.

A Healthline.com analysis of the diet concludes that most of the supplements and meal replacements are simply processed glucose, which is one of the worst things to have a lot of in your diet. The same overview says that while they contain calories, Isagenix meal replacements simply “are not real food.”

Reviewers at Medical News Today take issue with these parts of the diet, as well as the fact that it simply isn’t sustainable and may be selling people on the promise of lasting results when each additional month may make less of an impact than the first did (in an unhealthy way, we might add).

Isagenix Exposed

The Verdict on Isagenix

If you look into the marketing backing Isagenix as a brand, you’ll likely find a handful of success stories from real people who claim that Isagenix made them lose weight fast, and these stories may even be true. But even with the health risks aside, if you’re looking for a diet that can provide sustained benefit over many months, Isagenix probably isn’t the answer.

Is There a Danger From Tanning Sprays?

We all know by now that tanning sprays are a much healthier alternative to our skin then laying in the sun or a solarium… but can tanning sprays be a danger to us now too?

Tanning Sprays

Firstly, how does a spray tan work?

Tanning sprays contain an active ingredient called dihydroxyacetone, also known as DHA. This chemical substance temporarily darkens the skin by infusing the amino acids in the layer of dead skin cells in the skin’s surface (epidermis).

This is why a tan will only last 3-10 days, because our dead skin cells replace themselves with new cells and when it does this, the tan will slowly fade away from the skin.

Tanning Sprays

Is DHA harmful?

Not necessarily when it comes to tanning sprays. Although there is still precaution to take when applying the product as it is highly recommended to use protective gear for your eyes, nose and mouth to prevent inhalation.

Fortunately, tanning sprays contain a low amount of DHA, so it is considered non-toxic!

Do tanning sprays protect your skin from burning in the sun?

Absolutely not! You will still need to wear SPF+ sunscreen to protect your skin when laying in the sun. Being brown does not mean you are going to tan easier and not burn. Tanning sprays do not protect your skin as they only contain a minimal amount of SPF (3-5), certainly not enough to protect yourself from burning – so slip slop slap!

Tanning Sprays

Do tanning sprays cause premature skin ageing?

It can potentially increase the risk of ageing the skin if you don’t provide your skin the care that it needs. Ensure to keep your skin moisturised and hydrated as most tanning products can dry the skin out! Who wants to feel uncomfortable with itchy flaky skin? No one!

What is the safest option for spray tanning?

  • Self application products using a mitt or body lotion will minimise the inhalation of the product.
  • Use protective gear to cover your eyes, nose and mouth when getting sprayed will help reduce the chances of inhaling the product.
  • And if you really don’t want to risk it Eco Tan is your go to. Eco Tan was the first tanning manufacturer in Australia to be approved organic by the Organic Food Chain. The products are made with purely natural ingredients and does not contain any DHA. https://ecotan.com.au

Tanning Sprays

Conclusion.

Unless your going to breathe in lots of the chemical substance in on a daily basis, there is no short- or long-term effects from tanning sprays. So, what are you waiting for…?  go give yourself that beautiful bronzed glow a go!

The Most Powerful Fat burner in Existence; How Lipodrine is Changing the Industry

I love writing articles on new and exciting things that hit the market. Anything that is cutting edge or has a point of difference always pricks up my ears. A few months ago a product came to my attention, not only for the fact that its ads were plastered all over my news feed, but the main company selling it was also one who I regularly write articles for – Universal Supplements. Pretty biased right? Well to be honest my first reaction to its claims were sceptical. I have seen many products come and go that claim to assist in fat loss but when it comes down to the crunch results seem negligible. This product seemed different. It was called Lipodrine.

Lipodrine

What makes Lipodrine so Different?

Not to be confused with the American product LipodrEne which contains the illegal inclusion of ephedrine. This is a product produced by the company Growth Labs Australia. An Australian product, that people are going absolutely bonkers for, I had to find out more. I contacted Growth Labs Australia to find out just what Lipodrine’s point of difference was. I must admit I was impressed with the response and even more impressed when I tried the product for myself. But we will get to that.

Lipodrine

So what is it that makes Lipodrine so different? The innovative team at Growth Labs Australia had tapped into some key problems with existing products. There were also some hurdles to overcome with recent changes to laws surrounding supplements and the ingredients used. Firstly GLA (Growth Labs Australia) realised that generally a capsule product is preferred to a powdered product that must be mixed as a drink. This is nothing new, there’s plenty of companies manufacturing capsule products. But there’s an issue with capsules that doesn’t come with powdered products. The issue is SPACE. You simply can’t fit as much into a capsule as you can in a scoop of powder. So how did they get around it? well… They kept the ingredient profile simple. Combine only 5 ingredients. 5 powerful ingredients that interact perfectly with each other. 5 ingredients that could be clinically dosed within a capsule. 5 ingredients that are backed by peer reviewed studies and clinical trials. No pixie dust, no blends of 20 ingredients leaving dosages minuscule. So what are they? they’re listed plain as day on the labels but I thought I’d go through them for you and explain exactly what each one does:

1,3,7-Trimethylxanthine (Caffeine)

1,3,7-Trimethylxanthine is a central nervous system stimulant that reduces fatigue and drowsiness, in addition to improving reaction time, wakefulness, concentration, and motor coordination.

It has also been shown delay or prevent sleep and improves task performance during sleep deprivation. Shift workers who use 1,3,7-Trimethylxanthine make fewer mistakes due to drowsiness.

1,3,7-Trimethylxanthine also has psychoactive effects that promote alertness, attention, and task switching.

It is a proven ergogenic aid in humans. which means it improves athletic performance in aerobic (especially endurance sports) and anaerobic conditions. 1,3,7-Trimethylxanthine also increases basal metabolic rate in adults, which means more fat burned by doing absolutely nothing!

1,3,7-Trimethylxanthine improves muscular strength and power, and may enhance muscular endurance. It also enhances performance on anaerobic tests. Consumption before constant load exercise has been shown in peer reviewed studies to reduce perceived exertion. This Means that supplementing with 1,3,7-Trimethylxanthine makes torturous exercise feel easier, allowing you to train harder for longer!

5-Hydroxytryptophan

5-Hydroxytryptophan is a necessary precursor for the brain to produce more serotonin.

Serotonin is an important chemical and neurotransmitter in the human body. It is believed to help regulate mood and social behavior, appetite and digestion, sleep, memory, and sexual desire and function. It has been shown that taking 5-Hydroxytryptophan orally will speed up serotonin production.

5-Hydroxytryptophan has also been long used off-label to treat obesity (by promoting weight loss).

Lipodrine

N,N-dimethyltyramine

N,N-dimethyltyramine is a nootropic that is effective for both cognitive and athletic enhancement. For anyone trying to lose weight, N,N-dimethyltyramine can boost one’s metabolism while decreasing appetite. For this same reason, bodybuilders take N,N-dimethyltyramine as it promotes fat loss but encourages strength.

It is also commonly used by individuals who are looking to achieve an upper edge within the workplace, as it promotes focus, motivation, and energy levels. These varied effects make this supplement ideal for a wide range of people, who are looking to achieve a wide range of benefits.

Higenamine HCL

Higenamine is a chemical found in several plants including aconite, Annona squamosa, Nandina domestica (sacred bamboo), and others.

In supplements, higenamine is showing amazing results as a pre-workout supplement for improving athletic performance. As an added bonus it has also been shown to be effective for weight loss, cough, asthma, and erectile dysfunction.

Synephrine HCL

Synephrine is a naturally occurring substance known as an alkaloid that’s found in plants. It’s particularly abundant in the bitter orange fruit, which is why it’s often referred to by that name. In Traditional Chinese Medicine, synephrine has been in use for thousands of years, obtained mainly via citrus peels. It’s chemically similar to the ephedrine and pseudoephedrine found in many medications, weight loss and energy supplements.

Accordingly, synephrine impacts the adrenal system of the human body and increases basal metabolic rate, which accounts for up to 70% of your daily caloric expenditure.

If you want to lose fat, you need to burn more energy than you eat. Thus, anything that helps you burn more energy (like synephrine), can help you lose fat faster.

Synephrine is also often referred to as a “stubborn fat burner.” And the great news is there’s a plethora of studies to back it up. The bottom line is most people who supplement with synephrine lose fat faster.

The Stimulant Issue, New Laws and New Innovations

The only other thing plaguing GLA was a change in supplements laws in Australia. Towards the end of 2017 the government put a ban on the use of all Methylated Alkylamines which were the main class of stimulant used in all fat burners and pre workouts up to that point. They gave energy, drive, focus and a euphoric sensation that users loved. But GLA discovered something they could do with Caffeine. Humble caffeine doesn’t get too many people screaming hallelujah from the rooftops these days. After all it is relatively mild compared to the stimulants previously used… or is it? Caffeine can give great energy drive and focus, but its lacking that euphoric sensation I mentioned earlier. Luckily a compound exists known as 5-HTP (5-Hydroxytryptophan). 5-HTP doesnt give much energy, drive or focus, BUT it allows for the release more serotonin AKA the feel good hormone. Mix Caffeine with 5-HTP and you have a Powerful stimulant that gives energy, drive and focus as well as the euphoric sensation that everybody loves. It’s a knockout punch.

What Did I Think?

If I was going to write an article on this stuff I thought I’d better give it a go. After all who doesn’t want to lose a couple extra kgs?

Initial thoughts… “This stuff is strong.” For probably the first week I felt like I had downed 3 energy drinks and two strong coffees about 20 mins after consuming. I also felt a little flushed in the face, a kind of warm sensation. Although it was strong I pressed on. I stepped on the scales at the end of week 1 with anticipation. I hadn’t changed anything other than taking Lipodrine. I was down 900g which was great but I guess I hoped for a miracle overnight.

Week 2 was the week things really got exciting. I decided to try and give my Lipodrine its best shot of working. I’m generally pretty active anyway but I decided to also cut out soft drink. I don’t have a lot, maybe 3 cans a week but I cut it out anyway. The side effects in week 2 were nowhere near as bad as week one. In fact I really started to enjoy the energy I felt and I was far less flushed. Once again I stepped on the scales… Another 1.3kg down! this meant that in 2 weeks I had lost over 2 kg’s! I was over the moon!

I’m currently nearing the end of week 3 as I write this article and I have to say I’m impressed. I can physically see a change in my body and I feel the number is going to be just as exciting as week 2. I guess you could say I went from a sceptic to a preacher. Lipodrine is by far the best weight loss supplement I’ve ever tried. Id encourage anyone who is struggling to lose weight or has hit a plateau to give it a try. What have you got to lose?

BodyBuilding at 40

There’s a lot of controversy being thrown around about BodyBuilding at 40, lets throw all that negativity out the window today and talk about all the BENEFITS of getting that Body you’ve been dreaming of and maintaining a healthy lifestyle after you hit the big 40.

Body building isn’t just a game for the young bucks to play, it’s something we can all achieve, and while our body does start to deteriorate with age, getting healthy and working out can help slow down that process. Start it Slow

Starting at 40 isn’t always easy, make sure you give yourself enough time to start your workout with some solid stretching to get those muscles ready for the pain you’re about to put them through.

Start it Light

EVERYONE starts slow, don’t jump straight into 40kg dumb bell bicep curls just because they’re there, start yourself off with light weights and high repetitions so you can get your form right.

Keep it Simple

There are so many PT’s out there creating elaborate workouts for people to follow…. You don’t need it. Start off by building solid proficiency in all your base movements functional movements, like push up’s, pull ups and squats, when you’ve mastered these then move into new and exciting things. If you keep up with your foundation exercises you’ll most certainly notice a difference in how you look and feel.

BodyBuilding at 40

Work Hard

No matter what age you are, you need to feel that strain when working out, if it doesn’t feel like you’re working, you’re not working. Getting and maintaining fitness isn’t something that is handed to you, it has to be earned through hard work and effort.

Fuel Your Body

Eat the good stuff, eat the salad, smash the chicken, ingest the beans…. Your body will thank you for it.

Be Consistent

Don’t talk yourself out of training by thinking too much, a lot of people will meticulously work out what they want to do and when…. And then miss a whole week because the missed one day, then that week can turn into a month and longer from there. Keep it simple, if you didn’t go to the gym yesterday, make the time today.

BodyBuilding at 40

Don’t Expect to See Results Overnight

Everyone hopes for a quick fix in your appearance, if you spent the last 40 years eating wrong and remaining mostly stationary, getting to where you want to want to be is going to take some time. Take it slow, eat right and train hard and you’ll notice a difference in how you feel and eventually how you look.

Don’t Dwell on Your Age

Your age doesn’t make you who you are or define how hard you work, don’t destroy your self esteem by saying “I’m too old for this”

Don’t hibernate

Sure you need rest, but you don’t need as much rest as you think you do – no one needs 10-12 hours of sleep per night or a nap during the day.
